Frequently Asked Questions
Odd Lot is built to help traders learn structure. It does not provide signals, stock picks, or financial advice.
General
What is Odd Lot?
Odd Lot is an educational trading platform built to help users learn how to review stock charts, technical setups, market structure, and trading concepts in a more organized way.
Is Odd Lot a stock-picking service?
No. Odd Lot is not a stock-picking service. We do not tell users what to buy, sell, hold, or trade.
Who is Odd Lot for?
Odd Lot is designed for beginner to intermediate traders who want a clearer way to study charts, learn technical analysis, and evaluate potential setups.
What does Odd Lot mean?
In the market, an odd lot traditionally refers to a trade size that is smaller than the standard round lot. For us, the name also reflects the idea that most traders start small, learn through repetition, and build structure over time.
Scanner
What does the scanner do?
The Odd Lot scanner reviews stocks against an educational rubric and organizes the results so users can study charts, setups, and market structure more efficiently.
Does the scanner tell me what to buy?
No. The scanner does not tell you what to buy, sell, hold, or trade. It gives structure, not signals.
Are scanner grades buy or sell recommendations?
No. Scanner grades are educational outputs only. They are not trade alerts, investment recommendations, or guarantees of future performance.
How are scanner grades calculated?
Scanner grades are based on an educational review of multiple factors, which may include trend, relative strength, volume, chart structure, price action, and fundamental context.
The full scoring logic, rubric details, and system framework are proprietary to Odd Lot.
Why did a stock get a low grade?
A stock may receive a lower grade if it fails one or more parts of the scanner review, such as weak trend, poor chart structure, low relative strength, weak volume, or weaker fundamental context.
Why did a stock get a high grade?
A stock may receive a higher grade if it meets more of the educational criteria used by the scanner. A high grade does not mean the stock will go up and should not be treated as a recommendation.
Can a high-grade stock still go down?
Yes. A high grade does not predict future performance. Stocks can decline for many reasons, including market weakness, news, earnings, sector rotation, or general volatility.
Can a low-grade stock still go up?
Yes. A low grade does not mean a stock cannot move higher. The scanner is an educational structure tool, not a prediction engine.
How often is the scanner updated?
Scanner updates may vary while Odd Lot is in beta. Update timing may depend on data availability, testing, development work, and the current version of the scanner.
Why does the scanner show old or delayed data?
Scanner data may come from third-party sources and may contain delays, errors, omissions, or incomplete information. Always verify information independently before making any financial decision.
Why does the scanner look different from my brokerage chart?
Different platforms may use different data sources, price adjustments, timeframes, indicators, chart settings, or update schedules. This can cause differences between Odd Lot and your brokerage or charting platform.
Can I request a stock to be added?
Yes. If there is a stock you would like reviewed or added to future scanner coverage, contact us and include the ticker symbol.
Does Odd Lot work for day trading?
Odd Lot is not primarily designed for day trading. It is better suited for learning chart structure, technical setups, and swing-trading-style review.
Does Odd Lot work for options?
Odd Lot does not provide options strategies or options trading recommendations. The scanner may help users study the underlying stock, but it should not be treated as an options trading tool.
